Born on March 14, 1947, in Worcester, Jerry was a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, respected educator, and loyal friend whose warmth, intelligence, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Jerry earned his bachelor's degree from Boston University, a master's degree from University of South Florida, and a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Florida State University.
He dedicated 25 years to higher education, specializing in public budgeting and finance. During his distinguished academic career, Jerry taught at Kent State University, the University of Central Florida, and spent 16 years as a professor at Suffolk University before retiring in 2017. In addition to inspiring generations of students, he made significant contributions to his field through scholarly publications and professional service.
Outside the classroom, Jerry was an avid reader who loved books, enjoyed a good glass of wine and a fine cigar, and was well known for his sharp wit and infectious sense of humor. He had a remarkable ability to make people laugh and brought joy to those around him.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Brisson Gianakis; his son, Alexander; his grandson, Evander; his brothers, Nick and Angelo; his sisters, Kathy and Ethel; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a date and location to be announced.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boston Red Sox Foundation.
