WORCESTER — Milford Post 59 wasted no time taking control Thursday night, erupting for 19 runs on 13 hits in a commanding 19-1 victory over Vernon Hill Post 435 in American Legion Baseball action.
Milford jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning, added six more runs in the second, scored twice in the third, and capped the night with another six-run fourth inning to put the game well out of reach.
The offense was powered by Jackson Fournier, who enjoyed a spectacular night at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Brayden Lewis added two hits — one being a home run — two runs scored, and two RBIs, while Ben Maiorano drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double.
Milford received contributions throughout the lineup, with Sean Burchard adding an RBI single and Cole McGovern driving in a run. The team also took advantage of Vernon Hill’s defensive miscues, as Post 435 committed five errors.
On the mound, Jaxen Lindsey turned in an efficient outing, allowing just one unearned run on three hits over three innings while striking out two to earn the win.
The decisive victory completed a dominant day for Milford, as they grow to 17-3 on the season. Them and Leominster are dueling for the top spot in the District 4 standings, just a half game apart, with only a handful of games remaining in the regular season.
