MILFORD — Milford Post 59 put together another complete team performance Wednesday night, using timely hitting and dominant pitching to earn a 7-2 victory over Grafton Post 92 at Fino Field.
Milford collected nine hits while holding Grafton to just three hits en route to the win.
Post 59 struck first with a run in the bottom of the opening inning before extending its lead with two more runs in the fourth. After Grafton trimmed the deficit to 3-2 in the fifth, Milford responded with its biggest inning of the night, scoring four times in the sixth to pull away.
Ben Maiorano paced the offense, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Joey McGee also delivered a strong performance at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Sam Schoenberg reached base three times, recording a hit, drawing two walks, and driving in two runs.
Milford received contributions throughout the lineup as Nick Pedroli, Josh Bouchard, Cole McGovern, and Brady Wajda each added a hit. McGovern scored once and drew two walks, while Pedroli, Brayden Lewis, Schoenberg, Maiorano, McGee, and Wajda all crossed the plate.
The pitching staff was equally impressive.
Tyler Ballard earned the victory after allowing just one run on three hits over four innings, walking two and striking out three. Josh Giancola shut the door in relief, tossing three innings of no-hit baseball, allowing one unearned run while striking out five.
For Grafton, Haylan Oberg finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Zach Otis recorded the team’s only extra-base hit with a double. Oberg also started on the mound, allowing three runs over four innings before Milford broke the game open against the bullpen in the sixth.
The victory puts Milford at 15-3 this season, good for 2nd place in the District 4 standings. With just four games remaining in the regular season, Post 59 looks to fine-tune the details as they prepare for a strong playoff push.
