MILFORD — Milford American Legion Baseball and Milford Special Olympics will once again come together for a special evening of community celebration when Post 59 hosts Special Olympics Night on Monday, June 29, at Fino Field.

The annual event recognizes the athletes, coaches, volunteers, and families who make Milford Special Olympics one of the largest and most active programs in the region. According to Program Director Loren Blanchard, nearly 400 athletes participate in Milford Special Olympics programming, with approximately 450 total participants when coaches, volunteers, and unified partners are included.

One of the evening’s highlights will take place before first pitch, when Special Olympics athletes are invited onto the field for opening ceremonies and are recognized in front of the hometown crowd. A Milford Special Olympics athlete will also be selected to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, continuing a tradition that athletes eagerly anticipate each summer.

“For them to be recognized by members of our Milford community, it’s unmatched,” Blanchard said. “It’s a very cherished tradition that we have and our athletes look forward to it every summer.”

Milford Special Olympics offers up to 16 athletic programs throughout the year, ranging from competitive sports to recreational opportunities designed to ensure athletes of all abilities can participate.

The event also showcases the strong partnerships that exist throughout the Milford community, bringing together Milford Legion Baseball, Special Olympics Massachusetts, Sweet Inspirations, Pepperoncini’s, and numerous local supporters.

“There’s really no place like Milford,” Blanchard said. “It’s always so special to see organizations come together to support one common goal, which is building and strengthening our community.”

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m., with fans encouraged to arrive early for the pregame recognition ceremonies. Admission is free, and community members are invited to attend and celebrate Milford’s Special Olympics athletes.
