GRAFTON — Young outdoor enthusiasts will once again have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of archery this summer as Fin & Feather Sports hosts its annual Summer Archery Clinics in Grafton and Westborough.
The clinics are open to boys and girls ages 6-16 and are designed to introduce participants to the sport in a safe, fun, and structured environment. According to Fin & Feather owner Jeff LeClaire, the program focuses on teaching proper technique, range safety, and confidence-building skills while helping young archers develop a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors.
“It’s like Archery 101,” said LeClaire. “We go through all the safety procedures, what a range looks like, and how to safely participate on the range.”
Participants will learn range commands from a designated range master and practice on ranges up to 15 yards. Younger archers use recurve bows, while older participants have the opportunity to work with compound bows. No equipment is required.
Now entering its 14th year in Grafton, the program has become a summer tradition for many local families.
“We love seeing kids year after year,” LeClaire said. “Some of our campers that love archery come back and sign up for that as well.”
The clinics highlight many of the benefits associated with archery, including exercise, mental focus, self-discipline, and social interaction. Organizers also incorporate games and challenges, including balloon targets, to help keep the experience engaging for younger participants.
Sessions will be held on select dates throughout July and August in Grafton and Westborough. Fin & Feather Sports, based in Upton and celebrating its 57th year in business, encourages interested families to register early as space is limited.
