Born in Boston, James was the son of the late Walter Hardiman and Constance (Woolhouse) Morse. He was raised and educated in Worcester and graduated from Central New England College.
James enjoyed a successful career as an electrical engineer with Warren Communications in Littleton, where he worked until his retirement.
A proud veteran, James served in the United States Navy during the late 1950s aboard the USS Marshall. His military service remained a source of pride throughout his life.
James was a former member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and enjoyed traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, and following his favorite Boston sports teams. He was an especially loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
He is survived by his children, Susan Walker and her husband Garret of Holden, Beth Delaney of Westborough, and Jeffrey Hardiman and his wife Cheryl of Uxbridge. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren—Meagan Weigold, Justin Sorensen, Anna Vriesema, Molly Linnane, James Delaney, Haley Walker, Jordan Walker, Erin Shinkus, and Lindsay Walker—as well as nine great-grandchildren.
James was predeceased by his daughter, Diane Sorensen, and his sister, Mary Vail.
He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his service to his country, his love of travel and sports, and the many memories he shared with those he loved.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at the Pickering & Son Westborough Funeral Home, located at 62 West Main Street in Westborough.
A brief funeral service will begin at 11:30 A.M., followed by a celebration-of-life luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in James’s memory may be made to the Westborough Food Pantry or the Westborough Council on Aging, located at 4 Rogers Road in Westborough.
James’s legacy of family, service, and friendship will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
