MILFORD, MASS. — The Milford Police Department and Milford Fire Department will once again take the field for the second annual Battle of the Badges charity softball game on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Milford Town Park.

The event, organized by local PTO volunteers, will benefit Shining Star Preschool, Brookside Elementary School, and Memorial Elementary School. Last year’s inaugural game drew a strong crowd despite rainy weather, prompting organizers to expand the fundraiser to support all three schools.

“It was originally for just Shining Star Preschool,” said Brookside PTO President Lacey Beaton. “We wanted to try something different and bring the community together to support some of the schools.”

Proceeds from the event will help fund field trips, educational programs, and other opportunities for students across the three schools.

In addition to the softball game, attendees can enjoy appearances by Worcester Red Sox mascots Smiley and Woofster, food vendors, raffles, and family activities. Milford resident Dacia Biello, 11, will perform the National Anthem before first pitch.

One storyline to watch will be the Hayes brothers, with School Resource Officer Brian Hayes representing the Police Department while his brother Jimmy Hayes suits up for the Fire Department. The firefighters won last year’s matchup and will look to defend their title.

“It really does bring everybody together,” said Brookside PTO Treasurer Brianne Wells. “The school community is really excited because it’s fun for the kids to see the police and fire departments out there having fun.”

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Milford Town Park.
