GRAFTON — Residents looking to enjoy the outdoors this summer will once again have the opportunity to get out on the water during Grafton Recreation’s Summer Paddling Nights at Silver Lake.

The popular program, held in partnership with Finn & Feather Sports of Upton, offers participants the chance to explore Silver Lake by canoe or kayak while enjoying an evening on one of the community’s most scenic natural resources.

According to Finn & Feather owner Jeff LeClaire, the program has been a fixture in the community for approximately 15 years and was created as a way to give back to Grafton residents.

“This is an ongoing event we’ve had for about 15 years working in conjunction with the Grafton Recreation Department,” said LeClaire. “I wanted to give back to the community with a reduced-price rental for members of the community and their friends and family.”

Participants can choose from single kayaks, tandem kayaks, and canoes. Canoes can accommodate up to four people, making the program a popular option for families and groups looking to spend time together outdoors.

LeClaire, who operates Finn & Feather’s Outdoor Venture Program for the Town of Grafton, said the paddling nights are designed to make outdoor recreation accessible and affordable for residents of all experience levels.

“We offer canoes, kayaks, two-person kayaks as well, and the canoes, we can fit up to four people in a canoe,” said LeClaire.

Before launching onto the water, participants receive instruction and safety information to help ensure a comfortable experience for both first-time and experienced paddlers.

Summer Paddling Nights are scheduled for July 7, July 14, July 21, and August 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Silver Lake. Participants may bring their own equipment or rent canoes and kayaks through the program.

Registration is handled through the Grafton Recreation Department website.

LeClaire said the goal remains the same as it was when the program began more than a decade ago — helping people get outside, enjoy nature, and spend quality time with family and friends on the water during the summer months.
