The day began with Czechia and South Africa splitting the points in a 1-1 draw. Czechia struck first, but South Africa found a late equalizer when Teboho Mokoena converted a penalty in the 83rd minute to earn his side a valuable point.
Switzerland followed with an impressive 4-1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina. The match turned in the Swiss favor after a pair of substitutions in the 72nd minute. Johan Manzambi and Ruben Vargas combined for three goals and an assist, helping Switzerland pull away. Bosnia’s hopes of a comeback disappeared after a red card shortly after Switzerland opened the scoring.
Canada took complete control against Qatar from the opening whistle. Strikers Cyle Larin and Jonathan David each found the net early before Qatar’s discipline unraveled. The hosts were shown red cards in both the 33rd and 51st minutes, the latter resulting in a serious injury to Canadian midfielder Ismaël Koné, who was forced to leave the field on a stretcher.
Playing with a two-man advantage, Canada cruised to a 6-0 victory behind a hat trick from Jonathan David.
Mexico capped off the day by defeating South Korea 1-0, becoming the first team to officially qualify for the Round of 32 and secure the top spot in Group A.
