HOLLISTON – Quick action by firefighters helped prevent a garage fire from causing more extensive damage to a Holliston home over the weekend.

The Holliston Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on Fiske Street on June 14. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from an attached garage and immediately began an aggressive fire attack.

Thanks to their rapid response, firefighters successfully contained the fire to the garage and prevented it from spreading into the main living area of the home. Crews then used ventilation equipment to clear smoke from the residence.

No injuries were reported, and two family dogs were safely rescued from the home during the incident.

The fire was later determined to have been caused by a lithium-ion battery pack located in the garage. Officials say the incident serves as an important reminder about lithium-ion battery safety, including using approved chargers, avoiding charging devices on beds or couches, and properly recycling old batteries.

The Holliston Fire Department also thanked its mutual aid partners from the Sherborn Fire & Rescue Department and Medway Fire Department for their assistance during the response and for helping provide coverage for the community.
