Mr. Richard J. Luke, 84, of Milford
1942 - 2026

He was the beloved husband of the late Carol A. (Gary) Luke, who passed away in 2024.

Born in Syracuse, New York, Richard was the son of the late George A. Luke and Margaret C. (Mergardt) Luke. He earned his bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure University before building a successful career in the insurance industry.

Richard worked for many years as an insurance adjuster and later owned and operated his own insurance company. He was known for his professionalism, strong work ethic, and dedication to helping others throughout his career.

Outside of work, Richard found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid saltwater fisherman who also loved tending to his vegetable and flower gardens. More than anything, he treasured spending time with his family, especially the Sunday dinners that brought everyone together.

Richard is survived by his children: Michael Luke of Shrewsbury, Donna Pelletier of Milford, and Christopher Luke and his wife Amy of Fairfax, Vermont.

He also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren: Jessica Mousseau and her husband Jay of Milford; Ivy Krezinski and her husband Daniel of Isle La Motte, Vermont; Sydney Luke and her wife Sarah of Rochester, New York; Samantha Pelletier of New York City; Colton Luke and his fiancée Maygan of Georgia, Vermont; and Cameron Pelletier of North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

Richard is also survived by his siblings: George M. Luke of Greenville, South Carolina; Kathryn McAninch of Waterloo, Indiana; Ellen McGregor and her husband Richard of Westwood; and Mary Fahle and her husband Robert of Apex, North Carolina; along with his brother-in-law Howard Gary of Sacramento, California; sister-in-law Gwen Luke of Muskegon, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother Peter C. Luke, sister-in-law Anne Luke, and brother-in-law Jack McAninch.

Richard will be remembered for his love of family, quiet kindness, devotion to tradition, and the warmth he brought to those fortunate enough to know him.

A private funeral will be held Thursday, May 28th from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, located at 44 Congress Street in Milford.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford.

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
