Carl Jacob Hatfield, 80, of Milford
1945 - 2026

He was the devoted husband of the late Patricia R. (Bachman) Hatfield, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage.

Born on August 17, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Carl was the son of the late Carl Howard and Marie “Toddy” Pauline (Weiland) Hatfield.

Carl proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Following his service, he built a long and dedicated career as a Telephone Equipment Installer with Western Electric, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies. His work took his family from Pittsburgh to New York, and eventually to Milford, Massachusetts, where he later retired. Throughout his life, Carl formed many lasting friendships and remained connected with those he met along the way.

A hardworking and faith-filled man, Carl’s life centered around his family. His wife and children were his greatest pride and joy. As a longtime member of Sacred Heart Parish in Milford, his strong faith guided his daily life and shaped the kindness, generosity, and quiet strength he showed to everyone he encountered.

Carl will be remembered for his warm spirit, easygoing nature, and positive outlook. He found joy in simple pleasures, especially tending to his garden alongside his children. He loved sharing the fruits of his labor—especially tomatoes and green beans—with family, friends, and neighbors. He also enjoyed spending time with loved ones and engaging in spirited games of Scrabble.

Known for his warm embraces, Carl often expressed his gratitude for life by saying, “we are blessed,” often with a tear of happiness in his eye. He was a proud and loving grandfather, affectionately known as “PapPap,” a role he cherished deeply.

He is survived by his children: Carla Harris and her husband Sean of Bridgewater; Rebecca Mason and her husband Michael of Plainville; Matthew Hatfield and his wife Gina of Essex; Elisabeth Vitagliano and her husband Robert of Whitinsville; Chrys Hatfield of Boston; and Amanda Hatfield of Milford. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Amy and Valerie Mason; Jonathan Harris; Sean Harris and his wife Holly; and Dylan and Alexander Hatfield.

Carl is also survived by his siblings: Raymond “Butch” Hatfield of Pittsburgh; Roger Hatfield and his wife Mary of Naples, Florida; Scott Hatfield of Pittsburgh; and Karen Karkalla of Pittsburgh. He was predeceased by his sister, Jeanne Munroe. He also leaves his sister-in-law Kathryn Yen, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at St. Martha Parish Hall, 221 South Street, Plainville.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 4, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Milford. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 98 Medway Road, Milford.
