1943 - 2026
Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Frank was the son of the late Susan (Spinelli) and Frank Melle. He graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1960, where he first caught the attention of his future wife, Shirley. Always known for his polished and gentlemanly presence, he later reconnected with her—and the rest, as they say, is history.
Frank was the first in his family to attend college, earning his degree from Northeastern University in 1965. He began his career in Pittsfield with General Electric, where he worked in the early days of information technology, developing innovative computer programs.
He later moved his family to Holliston, where he built a home and took great pride in the life he created there. Having grown up in an apartment, his large yard became a special place filled with family memories—from games of catch with his sons to soccer practices for his daughter’s team. Frank was actively involved in his children’s lives, coaching their sports teams and serving as a member and past president of the Holliston Jaycees during the 1970s and 1980s.
After a long and successful career in IT, Frank retired and enjoyed traveling with Shirley, including trips to Italy and Ireland. He remained active in the community, serving as President of the Holliston Historical Society, where he played a key role in organizing the celebration of its 100th anniversary.
Family was at the center of Frank’s life. He was always there to celebrate successes and offer encouragement during difficult times. He especially enjoyed family vacations in Chatham on Cape Cod. A lifelong New England sports fan, Frank held season tickets to the Patriots—even before their championship years—and remained a loyal supporter, win or lose.
Frank will be remembered for his generosity, loyalty, and strong work ethic, as well as his sense of humor—often laughing at his own jokes to the delight of those around him. He was a steady and guiding presence for his family.
In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by his daughter, Saundra Melle; his son, Paul Melle; his son, Ward Quaglietti and his wife Tracy; his brother, Daniel Melle and his wife Patricia Vasseur-Melle; and their children, Nick, Matt, and Gina. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Joseph (Kate) and Joselle Quaglietti, and his great-granddaughter, whom he was recently able to meet virtually. He is also survived by a close circle of lifelong friends.
Frank was deeply grateful for the support of his family throughout his illness, especially the care and devotion of his wife, Shirley, and his daughter, Saundra.
