Born in Franklin, New Hampshire, Barbara spent her early years enjoying the simple pleasures of life, especially time at her grandparents’ dairy farm, where she developed a love for animals—particularly the cows she adored. She carried those cherished memories throughout her life, often sharing them with her children and grandchildren. Though she later moved to Franklin, Massachusetts at the age of 18, she always remained deeply connected to her New Hampshire roots, her cousin Lily Cote, and lifelong friends.
After relocating to Massachusetts, Barbara’s life took a meaningful turn when she met Francis “Frank” Cassidy. The two married and built a life together in Franklin, where they raised their family and became part of the community she would call home for the rest of her life.
Barbara was a devoted homemaker and a woman of deep faith. She served as a CCD teacher at St. Mary’s Church in Franklin and found joy in reading, walking, baking, and enjoying ice cream. She will be remembered for her warm spirit, sharp mind, and deep love for her family.
She is survived by her children, Michael Cassidy and his companion Janice Bugden of Ashland; Carol Dacey and her husband James of Franklin; Sandra Bouchard and her husband Edward of Franklin; Paul Cassidy and his wife Elina of Palatka, Florida; and Brenda Commane of Franklin. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter Nancy Cassidy, and her brothers Donald “Buddy” Fresh and John Fresh.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Tri County Meals on Wheels, 10 Mill Street, Dudley, MA 01571.
