The Medfield girls hockey team reached the Final Four for a second straight season but saw its run end at the hands of No. 5-seeded King Philip Regional in a game decided by goals in the first and third periods. The Warriors entered the playoffs as the No. 9 seed after a 13-8-0 regular season and used an underdog mentality to earn upsets en route to the semifinals.
Medfield’s playoff path included a Round of 32 victory over No. 24 Wayland, a Round of 16 upset of the No. 8 seed Nauset, and a dramatic Round of 8 triumph over top-seeded Westwood. In that Westwood matchup, Medfield remained knotted at 0-0 into overtime before freshman Leah Carlson delivered the game-winning goal and sent the Warriors onward. That sequence demonstrated Medfield’s resilience and ability to rise to the occasion against higher seeds.
While the Final Four loss to King Philip was disappointing, the season still offered plenty to build on. The Warriors reached consecutive semifinal weekends and showed a capacity for postseason growth. The experience gained by underclass players and the confidence from multiple upsets will serve the program well as it looks to return even stronger next season.
