Milford Board of Health Warns Against Plastic Bags in Recycling Bins

MILFORD – The Milford Board of Health is reminding residents that plastic bags should never be placed in recycling bins.

Officials say plastic bags create serious safety hazards and can cause significant damage to equipment at recycling facilities. Because of this, EL Harvey will not collect recycling carts that contain plastic bags of any kind.

That includes grocery bags, trash bags, and plastic bin liners — all are considered contamination. The Board of Health says the correct approach is simple: place recyclable items loose directly into the recycling bin.

Residents are encouraged to double-check their bins before pickup to avoid missed collections and help keep recycling operations running safely and efficiently.
