Milford Highway Department Puts New Salt Shed into Service

MILFORD – The Milford Highway Department has started using its newly built salt shed, marking a major upgrade to the town’s winter operations.

Town officials say after overcoming a few delays, construction was completed last week on the 140-by-52-foot structure, which allows the department to store up to 3,400 tons of salt under one roof, significantly improving storage capacity and storm readiness.

As the first load of salt was delivered, the department noted that trucks can now dump directly inside the shed, a change that saves hours of labor and reduces wear and tear on loaders that previously had to push salt into place. Officials say the new setup will make winter road treatment more efficient and safer for crews throughout the season.
