Uxbridge’s boys basketball team used long-range firepower to cruise past Monty Tech and snap a losing skid, improving to 3-5 on the season. Tyler McCarthy starred, burying six three-pointers and finishing with 20 points, while William Stark added 14, including 10 in the third quarter, which helped close the gap.
Thatcher Sweeney chipped in 13 as the Spartans’ offense moved the ball and generated open perimeter looks. Uxbridge had struggled earlier in the season, losing five straight after opening with a win over Douglas, but the back-to-back statements over Bay Path (52-33) and Monty Tech signaled the squad may be finding its identity.
Against Bay Path earlier in the week, Sweeney exploded for 31 points and five three-pointers in a dominant showing. That kind of shooting depth has given Uxbridge multiple ways to score and has forced opponents to guard the entire floor.
The Spartans will look to carry momentum into a road matchup at St. Paul, a program with a similar early-season record. If Uxbridge continues to get shots from the wings and sturdy production from Stark, the Spartans could climb the standings in short order.
