Medway’s athletic squads have shown fight across sports this season, and the latest cross-sport sample included a competitive 3-3 tie with the Beavers in a matchup that needed overtime to decide it. The Mustangs entered the week riding a three-game winning streak in basketball before a 4-1 loss to Hopkinton, a game that featured Jason Drake’s lone goal in a tough outing.

Drake’s production has been a theme: he scored twice and added two assists in Medway’s recent win over Dedham, a performance that highlighted his playmaking and finishing ability. In the tight affair against the Beavers, Drake opened the scoring early in the first period and struck again in the second to make it 2-1, and Silas Mandeville chipped in a tally that pushed Medway to a 3-1 edge midway through the second.

The Beavers stormed back to force overtime, however, and both teams battled through extra time without finding the decider. Goaltending and defense held up under pressure, leading to the stalemate.

Medway now prepares for a stiff home test against the Medfield Warriors on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
