UXBRIDGE – Select Board Chair Brian Butler has formally apologized for an October social media post that sparked backlash from residents and led some to call for his resignation.

At this week’s board meeting, Butler addressed the controversy surrounding his reposting of AI-generated images depicting Democratic politicians as animals — including Barack and Michelle Obama portrayed as apes.

According to the Daily News, Butler read from a prepared statement, saying he “sincerely apologizes for sharing a video meme on social media that could possibly be perceived as containing racial undertones.” He added that he “abhors and denounces all forms of racism.”

Despite the apology, some community members continue to voice concerns about the incident and Butler’s judgment in sharing the post.
