The “Citizens of Milford” recently announced a Veterans Day Ceremony at the Draper Park on November 11th at 11 AM. All veterans and residents are encouraged to attend after the parade, as this special ceremony features prominent guests with years of service.
Local veterans, clergy, scouts, and the Milford High School Marching Band will be present, with Commander Eric P. Ruscitti and Jr. Vice Commander Tim McDonough from the Italian American War Veterans Milford Post #40 presenting the colors. U.S Army veteran and honorary Grand Marshall, Dennis “Jack” Candini, a former communications and intelligence specialist during the Vietnam War, will deliver the opening remarks.
Additional speakers include U.S Army Veteran Adam Beard, a combat cavalryman in the Global War Against Terrorism in Iraq, including Deborah and Michael Heaney. Deborah will honor her father’s service during World War II, U.S Army Veteran Lawrence J. Heron.
A wreath honoring veterans will be presented at the WWI monument by the Members of the Waters Corporation Veterans Employee Resource Group. Veterans Day Committee Chairman Peter Scandone will serve as master of ceremonies.
“Milford has a long, proud history of honoring our veterans”, says Scandone in a press release. “We encourage everyone to join us on Main Street for the parade and at Draper Park for the concluding ceremony to honor the service and sacrifice of our veterans.”
The Field of Flags, a tribute for veterans and military personnel, will be installed at the Draper Memorial Park prior to Veterans Day, and remain until the following Monday.
Limited chairs will be available at Draper Park. If the parade is cancelled due to rain, the ceremony will be moved to the Italian American War Veterans of the U.S. Post #40 Hall (4 Hayward Field) beginning at 10 AM, or at 11 AM if the parade continues. Be sure to check Citizens for Milford Facebook for weather updates.
