Uxbridge’s Spartans football squad opened its title defense dominantly and has carried the momentum into Week Two. The Spartans are 2-0 after a 45-0 season opener over Maynard and a high-scoring 47-35 win over Nipmuc in week two. Coming off last season’s D7 Super Bowl victory, Uxbridge has extended a remarkable winning streak to 29 games.
In the win over Nipmuc, Shea Paxton threw three touchdown passes, while Camden LaChapelle ran for two scores and Thatcher Sweeney delivered a multifaceted impact with a kickoff return for a 78-yard touchdown, a 38-yard pick-six, and a 36-yard touchdown reception. Those big plays swung momentum and showcased the Spartans’ depth and playmaking ability in all three phases.
Uxbridge’s offense has been explosive, and the defense opportunistic; combining both has made the Spartans the team to beat early in the season. Josh Giancola played well for Nipmuc, but the Spartans’ overall firepower proved decisive. Uxbridge now heads on the road to Oxford tomorrow at 1:30 PM. Oxford is 1-1 and coming off a win, so the Spartans will be tested, but they enter as clear favorites and aim to push the streak to 30 games.
