A hunter walking with his rifle is said to be what led to a lockdown of Upton schools on Thursday morning. Upton Police say the lockdown was triggered when a man in camouflage carrying a long gun was spotted along Pleasant Street near Glen Avenue and heading in the direction of Nipmuc High School and Blackstone Valley Tech. When police arrived, they didn’t find him, but when the guy heard about the lockdown, he went to police himself and said he had been legally hunting and was walking back to his car with the unloaded rifle when he was seen. No charges have been filed.
