National Grid will start implementing a “Smart Meter” project in Franklin over the next several months. The Town Administrator says it involves installation of electric Smart Meters into homes and businesses of all customers. They say the first step is to install new communications network equipment on utility poles over the next three to six months and once the network is up and communicating, they will install the smart meters for the three to six months after that. They say the smart meters allow for two-way communication and data flow between customers and National Grid.
