Milford Volleyball Pushes to Round of 16, Honors Teammate

Milford volleyball made major strides this season, advancing to the Division 1 Round of 16 and honoring one of their own along the way. The Scarlet Hawks finished the regular season 12-9, earning the No. 22 seed and a first-round matchup with Chelmsford. Milford exceeded expectations by taking down Chelmsford 3-1 to open the playoffs. That victory set up a tough second-round matchup with a surging Taunton team, which had just upset No. 6 Nipmuc. Though Milford fell 3-1 in that match, the team’s resilience and composure stood out. The loss carried deeper emotion. Prior to the game, the Scarlet Hawks left an open space in their pregame lineup in honor of teammate Marcelo Gomes, who had recently been taken by ICE. It was a moment of unity and grief, with the team rallying around each other in the face of tragedy. This season was a clear step forward for Milford, which improved from a No. 24 seed and first-round exit last year. With momentum and purpose, the Scarlet Hawks aim to climb even higher next season and break through to the quarterfinals.
