Milford Tennis Ends 24-Year Playoff Drought Behind Coach Austin’s Rebuild

The Milford boys’ tennis team capped off a major program turnaround by reaching the MIAA playoffs for the first time in 24 years. The run was the product of a years-long rebuild under head coach Austin, who took over four seasons ago when the team was struggling and inexperienced. Austin inherited a roster with little tennis background but instilled a culture of growth and resilience. Over time, a core group of players stuck with the program, helping to establish a new foundation. Coach Austin also recruited athletes from other sports to round out the roster, giving the Scarlet Hawks the numbers and skill they needed to compete. The payoff came this spring, as Milford earned a postseason berth, showcasing just how far the team had come. Though the Scarlet Hawks dropped their opening-round match to No. 5 Wayland, the playoff appearance was a significant accomplishment. After years of building, the future looks bright for Milford tennis. With their drought snapped and new momentum on their side, the team will now aim to take the next step: a playoff win.
