The Milford Scarlet Hawks head into the Division 1 playoffs as the No. 22 seed after posting a 12–9 record in a demanding schedule. On Tuesday at 5 p.m., they’ll travel to take on No. 11 Chelmsford in a first‐round match that pits gritty underdogs against a powerhouse squad. While Chelmsford finished 17–3 and dominated much of its competition, Milford has proven its mettle by consistently challenging elite programs throughout the year. Early in the season, Milford battled top Division 2 seeds and the No. 2 team in D1, enduring long five‐set battles that tested their stamina and teamwork. Though those matchups didn’t yield wins, they provided invaluable experience in high‐pressure situations. The Scarlet Hawks’ strengths lie in their balanced attack: middles who exploit gaps in the block, outside hitters who adjust mid‐rally, and a libero group that delivers timely digs to extend rallies. To pull off the upset in Chelmsford, Milford must maintain aggressive serving to disrupt the Lions’ quick tempo and execute crisp passing to set up their hitters. Communication at the net and precise footwork on defense will also be critical. If Milford can play with poise, capitalize on transition opportunities, and limit unforced errors, they have a genuine chance to extend their season. Expect a hard‐fought thriller where the Scarlet Hawks’ underdog spirit is on full display.
