Many U.S. veterans face significant challenges while trying to find the resources and accommodations available to them. With a rich family history in veteran service, Bill Gladwin from Mendon created a free website specialized in giving quick access to invaluable resources for retired veterans across the country.
Developed by Gladwin, VAHelp.US is a website that provides immediate links to job openings, local VA centers, and other points of interest available for veterans in every state. With the assistance of O*Net Online and other external sites, Gladwin’s site offers quick online access to veteran resources without needing to search through hundreds of web pages.
The website’s left tab categorizes the latest job opportunities in specific industries. By choosing the industry they wish to pursue, veterans are directed to several job descriptions and listings via O*Net Online. Job listings can also be personalized by state and ZIP code for easier navigation.
Written from personal experience, Gladwin also provides links to resume and interview tips on the home page, specifically for veterans who struggle to land a job. Other links on the home page include instructions for obtaining a Vet ID card, which is never an easy process.
As for nearby VA stations, users can find them through Gladwin’s website with ease. By clicking on the “Vet Health” page to the right, users are directed to the official VA site, where they can choose their preferred location and facility type.
Given its services extend from state to state, Gladwin hopes to push this site to a national level. “I’ve met with a bunch of veteran service officers to try and promote this site as best as they can” says Gladwin. “I have spent countless hours researching and working on what I believe will be the one site for veterans in this country to use”.
Gladwin’s family has been serving the country for generations, with his father serving in WWII, his brother in the Vietnam War, and his older siblings in the reserves. Gladwin claims that the site is his own contribution, giving back to the family members and other veterans who have served the United States.
The site is free-to-use with no additional costs. Questions and feedback can be sent to [email protected].
